Resumen

Objetivos Docentes
Describir los hallazgos de imagen de las diferentes manifestaciones en el SNC asociadas a la infección por VIH en pacientes diagnosticados en nuestro hospital haciendo hicapié en los signos y patrones radiológicos característicos de cada entidad que permitan una aproximación al diagnóstico.

Revisión del tema
El VIH es un virus neurotrópico que infecta tempranamente el sistema nervioso en el curso de la enfermedad, por lo que una gran parte de los pacientes infectados manifiestan alguna alteración neurológica a lo largo de su vida.
A pesar de que la terapia antirretroviral combinada o de gran intensidad (TARGA) ha mejorado el pronóstico disminuyendo la incidencia de manifestaciones neurológicas, España sigue siendo uno de los países de la Unión Europea en el que se siguen registrando altas tasas de nuevos diagnósticos, facilitado en los últimos años por los cambios demográficos o inmigración. En muchos de estos casos las manifestaciones neurológicas constituyen el debut de la enfermedad.
