Objetivos Docentes

El objetivo de esta revisión es analizar las críticas surgidas en los últimos años al cribado poblacional del cáncer de mama, haciendo un repaso histórico tanto de los argumentos a favor como en contra del mismo.

UN POCO DE HISTORIA

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, físico alemán, trabajando con un tubo de rayos catódicos, descubre los rayos X de manera accidental el 8 de Noviembre de 1895. Este hallazgo le valió el premio Nobel de Física en 1901.

A partir de ahí, se conocen varios médicos con especial atención a la radiología mamaria. Entre ellos destaca Albert Salomon, el cual, también en Alemania, hizo un estudio radiológico sobre 3000 piezas de mastectomía, siendo el primero que describe distintos tipos de carcinoma mamario y su diseminación ganglionar, fundamentalmente a región axilar.
